The Content of the Bible and Its Unity

God used about 40 people to write the Holy Bible. It took over 1500 years for them to do it. But none of the writers said that what the other writers wrote was wrong and that the opposite was the truth. All the writers were united in what they wrote.

This was possible because God was the only Author of the Bible and He inspired what the writers wrote. The content of the Holy Bible is therefore united.

The Theme of the Bible and Its Unity

There are 66 separate books in the Bible. The books talk about different subjects. In spite of this, the theme of the Bible is the same.

That theme is found in Ephesians 1:9-11 which says,

God did what he had purposed, and made known to us the secret plan he had already decided to complete by means of Christ.

This plan, which God will complete when the time is right, is to bring all creation together, everything in heaven and on earth, with Christ as head.

All things are done according to God's plan and decision; and God chose us to be his own people in union with Christ because of his own purpose, based on what he had decided from the very beginning.
(Good News Bible – GNB).

God’s secret plan which He has made known to us is the unifying theme of the Holy Bible.

What God has purposed is to save humanity and creatures. And the Savior He purposed to use to do this great work is our Savior Jesus Christ.

The Old Testament of the Bible centered on Jesus ever before He came to the world as a human being. Jesus Himself said,

“These are the very things I told you about while I was still with you: everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the writings of the prophets, and the Psalms had to come true.”
(Luke 24:44 - Good News Bible – GNB).

After Jesus said this to some of His disciples who were with Him, He opened their minds to understand what God’s Word said concerning Him.

He told them that it was written long ago that the Messiah (Jesus Christ) would suffer and die and rise again from death on the third day.

He went on to tell them that it was also written that this message about repentance and forgiveness of sins must be preached in His name to all nations. He then told them that they were witnesses to the things that happened.

From what I have just told you, you can see that both the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible tell the story of Jesus Christ.

What the Old Testament does is to prepare us for all the things that happened concerning Jesus.

The New Testament on its parts actually tells us how the things happened.

We can therefore see that both the Old and New Testaments have one theme. The theme is Jesus Christ.

So, whether a person was born in Old Testament or New Testament time, Jesus is the only Person that saves humanity from their sins through faith in the fact that what God promised concerning Jesus has been fulfilled.

The Holy Bible Has Variety

In the Holy Bible, you will find the different ways God dealt with people. The people themselves didn’t respond in the same way. They responded in different ways.

That’s why in the Bible, you would find different types of writings which include:

• History
• Poetry
• Prophecy
• Love Stories
• Letters
• Parables
• Miracles
• Adventure
